Pizza rolls

This is a fun recipe to rope the kiddos into helping!

Besides they will most likely be eating most of them anyway, well if they are anything like my teenage boy they will be. I swear that kid inhales food like a vacuum! Plus who doesn’t love pizza?!

These little rolls are a good time to get a conversation started about cooking with something that kids can relate to and most likely have already had from the freezer section. The nice part here is that you will be working with fabulous homemade dough and any ingredients you want to put in the mix!

The dough does not take very long and will make 2 large sized pizzas, so you can cut the recipe in half or make extra to freeze.

Obviously this isn’t just for kids, they are great for parties, appetizers, or simply to eat all by yourself. Totally worth the work and taste so much better than those freezer rolls from the grocery store. I use the mini pepperonis as it is easier to roll up. You can add any topping you desire to make your own yummy rolls.

If you do freeze, they come in handy for surprise guests. I keep them in a freezer bag for about a month.

Ingredients

  • 1 pizza dough ball
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup marinara
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp minced garlic or 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 bag mini pepperonis easier to roll than full size
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup shredded parmesan cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 425°
  • On a floured surface roll the dough into a circle. We want it fairly thin since it will be rolled up.
  • Mix the garlic and olive oil in a small bowl
  • Brush a light coating on the dough
  • Now cut the dough into 16 pieces. I use a pizza cutter and just slide it through like you are cutting a cooked pie.
  • Here you can get the kids involved and have them sauce and top their own sections.
  • A tip for fillings… arrange them as flat and uniform as possible as it makes it easier for rolling and a even bake.
  • Top with cheese and begin rolling from the end to the center.
  • Place them on a line or oiled baking sheet.
  • Brush on the remaining oil for a nice crust
  • Sprinkle on the shredded parmesan cheese
  • Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown
  • Dip in extra marinara or eat as is.
  • ENJOY!
