Come one, come all, and save this recipe! Not only is it healthy, super flavorful, but they only take 20 minutes to make!
These burgers are juicy and layered with so much yumminess, even my kiddo loves them! Which is hard to do. When I first told him we will be eating turkey burgers for dinner, he all but threw himself on the floor. My child has been a picky eater his whole life and makes every meal a chore, even still as a teen.
That can be very frustrating as a parent and especially for a foodie mom! Well, I am happy to report not only did he like it, but he also LOVED them. We have been eating them for years now. I have had the same success with turkey meatballs and especially in my Italian meatball soup.
You can find that recipe here – Turkey Meatball Italian Wedding Soup!
To make the burgers we will be mixing adobo chipotle pepper-, garlic, cilantro, and onion salt into the turkey meat. Then mixing a delicious sauce consisting of sun-dried tomatoes and low-fat sour cream together, this makes a lovely addition to all the flavors and toppings. Speaking of toppings, I like to melt mozzarella cheese on the patties, then top with romaine lettuce, onion, and fresh avocado!
I know we are adding chipotle but it’s a small amount and very mild so it’s mostly flavor that you will be picking up and not spice. Take a look at it!
Layers of yum! Here are a couple of my favorite sides that go well with this healthy burger.

Let’s get started!
Chipotle Turkey Burgers
Ingredients
- 1 lb lean ground turkey
- 2 tbsp Chipotle peppers in adobo, deseeded, and chopped small
- 1 tbsp cilantro, minced
- 1 tsp garlic, minced
- 1/2 tsp onion salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 4 slices mozzarella cheese
- 4 favorite buns I like sesame seed
- 4 pieces or romaine lettuce
- 1/4 yellow onion, sliced thin
- 1-2 avocados sliced
- 2 sun--dried tomatoes, minced
- 2 tbsp low fat sour cream
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine the sour cream and sun-dried tomato. Mix well and set aside.
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine the turkey, adobo chipotle peppers, garlic, cilantro, salt, and pepper. Mix with hands until well combined. Form into 4 even sized balls, then smash into patties, about a 1/2 inch thick.
- Heat a pan on high. Drizzle with 1 tbsp. of olive oil. Add the patties to the pan and cook for 4 minutes. Flip and cook 4 minutes more. (Keep an eye on the patties, if they look to be cooking too quickly lower the heat a bit)
- Next, add the cheese slices to each patty. Pour 1/4 cup water in the pan and cover with a lid. Let them steam for a minute or 2 until the cheese is ooey gooey and melted!
- Remove and toast the buns. I like to add a little drizzle of olive oil on the inside of the bun and toast it on the hot pan/griddle
- Now to assemble:Spread the tomato-cream mixture on the top and bottom bun. Next goes the romaine lettuce to bottom bun, then patty, onions, and avocado. and finish with a big ol bite!
- ENJOY!
