This will be the easiest and possibly the best ham you have cooked!
I say easy because we will be using a bone out fully cooked smoked, spiral ham. I like to get one from 8-11 lbs. It feeds about 8-10 people. It is very important you get a already smoked ham as it adds a great deal of the flavor already. The apricot glaze sends it home! Sweet and spicy then you get the smoky already in there ooooo weee it’s good!
Again, this is a very simple and fool proof recipe that anyone can do. I like to use the glaze on pork tenderloin and pork chops as well.
Follow the recommended cooking times on the ham. A ham this size I usually cook for 1 1/2 hours then pull out to glaze, pop back in for 30 minutes basting the ham to 2 times before finished. A tip for keeping the ham from drying out is to put on a baking sheet with small rack underneath. Add 1/2 a cup of water to the pan. Cover the ham gently with foil and cook until time to baste.
Here is the ham with the 1st round of basting. Doesn’t that look divine? Can you just smell it?
After the ham is finished cooking to your liking and the thermometer reads at least 145 degrees.
I like to let it rest for 10 minutes then move to my serving platter. You can easily dress it up with greens, and fresh fruit. I like to cut some of the slices down, and then do one last pour and brushing of the apricot glaze. Look at that!
Let’s get started!
Spicy Apricot Jam Ham
Ingredients
- 1 8-11 lb Fully cooked spiral, smoked ham
- 1 cup apricot jam
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 1/2 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tbsp sriracha hot sauce
- romaine and oranges for garnish optional
Instructions
- Heat the oven to 250° OR follow recommended cooking time on your hams instructions.
- On a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, add a small baking rack. Set the ham cut side down on top of the rack. Cover gently with foil.
- Pour 1/2 cup of water into the baking sheet. Bake for 1 hour.
- While the ham cooks, lets make the glaze. In a small bowl combine the apricot jam, sugar, Dijon, and hot sauce. Mix well.
- Remove foil, brush the ham gently with some of the jam mixture then return to the oven. Cook for 15 minutes, then brush again, pop back in and cook 15 more minutes.
- Check the temperature of the ham with a thermometer and it should read 145° If not, cook a bit longer.
- Pull out ham when at correct temp, let rest for 10 minutes, then plate. Pour on any remaining glaze.
- ENJOY!
