A delightful twist on a classic Italian dish!
Using a quick bologonese style sauce still gives gourmet flavor with a ricotta mixture that we roll up it all up in fresh sheets of lasagna. This has quickly become my favorite way to prepare lasgana. My whole family loves it because the noodles get a bit crunchy on the ends. It is delightful!
Ingredients
- 1 package of fresh lasagna sheets (8 sheets)
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1 pound ground beef
- 3oz tomato paste
- 7oz crushed tomatoes I love Cento brand
- 1 24oz/24.5oz Jar of Passata (tomato puree) I use MUTTI brand
- 1/4 cup red wine (can substitute water)
- 2Â olive oil
- 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil.
- Add the ground beef and cook until browned and crumbled. Drain fat.
- Season with salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder.
- Pour in the wine (can substitute water)
- Cook until it is almost evaporated and then goes the passata, To the passata bottle, fill 1/4 way full of water, shake up and pour into the pot. Cannot waste any goodness!
- Next to the party is the whole tomatoes and tomato paste.
- Turn the heat to low and give it a good stir.
- Let it simmer for 1 hour, stirring a few times.
- While the sauce is cooking, In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, 1/2 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese, 1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese, egg, nutmeg, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
Step 2: Assemble the Lasagna Rolls
- Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of a large baking dish.
- Cut the noodles in half. Lay one lasagna noodle flat and spread a few tablespoons of the ricotta mixture evenly over the noodle.
- Add some cooked ground meat on top of the cheese mixture.
- Then top with another noodle.
- Roll the noodles up and place it seam-side down in the baking dish.
- Repeat with the remaining noodles and filling.
Step 3: Bake the Lasagna Rolls
- Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the lasagna rolls.
- Sprinkle with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
Step 4: Serve and Enjoy
- Let the lasagna rolls cool for 5 minutes before serving.
- Garnish with Parmesan cheese, chopped basil or parsley, if desired.
- Serve with fresh green salad and garlic bread for a complete meal.
Storage Tips
- Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) until warmed through.
