Sauces & Dressings

Classic Marinara

A easy and fantastic marinara that is done in 30 minutes.

I like to use San Marzano canned tomatoes, fresh garlic, and let it simmer until all the flavors get aquinated. This makes it have a full robust flavor and richness. This is my a basic marinara that can be used for a plethora of dishes. You will find I use this as a base for many recipes. It is something that can be used as is or many ingredients added to suite the dishes flavor profile.

Sometimes I love to add parmesan cheese, garlic, basil, even balsamic vinegar. It just depends on what is accompanying the marinara.

Lets get started!

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup Extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 yellow onion, chopped
  • 6 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
  • 3 tbsp thyme chopped fresh or dried
  • 1 tbsp basil chopped fresh or dried
  • 1/2 medium sized carrot, shredded
  • 2 cans 28 ounce whole canned tomatoes I like Cento brand San Marzano
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper

Instructions

  • In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion, and garlic. Cook until light golden brown, 8 minutes or so. Add thyme, basil, and carrot. Cood about 5 minutes.
  • Add the tomatoes, with the juice, and bring to a boil, stirring often. Lower heat and simmer for about 30 minutes. Keep an eye on it and stir every 5 minutes or so.
  • After the 30 minutes is up, season with salt and pepper. Stir well.
  • Now you can choose to use as is or puree in a blender. For most of my recipes I blend.
  • Use right away or you can freeze for 6 months or refrigerated for 1 week.
  • ENJOY!!!
