Servings: 6 servings

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp dry active yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • 1/3 cup butter, melted
  • sesame seeds or any other topping mentioned above optional

Instructions

  • In a kitchenaid mixer or large bowl mix the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
  • Now add the egg. oil, and salt. Mix.
  • If using the kitchenaid mixer, add the flour and mix with bread hook on medium speed for 3-5 minutes. You want a smooth dough.
  • If mixing by hand, add 3 cups of flour and mix into a soft dough ball. Turn it out onto a floured surface with the remaining flour. Knead for 5 minutes until the dough is smooth.
  • Roll the dough into a ball and stretch out into a long rope and make it as even as possible.
  • Cut the dough into 6 to 10 or 12 pieces. I like to use a pizza cutter. Shape each piece into a ball.
  • Shape each piece into a round-flat ball. Place them onto a parchment lined baking sheet.
  • Cover with a tea towel and let them rise for 20 minutes
  • In the mean time set the oven to 425°
  • Bake the buns for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown
  • Move to a wire rack to cool
  • After they have cooled a bit, brush with butter.
  • Now you can add any topping you would like or just leave them buttered.
  • Cut in half. I like to toast mine before serving with all the goodies.
  • ENJOY!
