Whiskey BBQ Sauce

Smokey, sweet, and tangy! Perfect sauce for all kinds of meat. YUMM!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 yellow onion, chopped
  • 5 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 3/4 cup whiskey
  • 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp liquid smoke flavoring
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp mustard powder
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes - if you want added heat (OPTIONAL)

Instructions

  • In a large saucepan sauté the onions, and garlic in 1 tbsp olive oil until translucent over med-high heat.
  • Pour in the whiskey and let it burn off for 2-3 minutes.
  • Now add all of the remaining ingredients. Turn the heat to low and let it simmer for 30 minutes.
  • After 30 minutes is up. Remove from heat and transfer to a blender and puree.
  • Let the sauce cool.
  • Transfer to condiment bottles, mason jar, or any container with a lid.
  • Can be used on any meat you desire to BBQ and makes a great condiment to dip into as well!
