Yes that’s right whiskey french toast…
Because who doesn’t want to take their breakfast or brunch to the next level?! The name sounds fancy and they are but don’t let that discourage you. It’s a very simple recipe that will leave everyone thinking you got it all together in the kitchen.
This recipe makes 6-8 servings (1 bread slice) so adjust where you need to fill up those plates.
Lets get started!
INGREDIENTS:
- 6-8 pieces of a good french bread
- 1/3 cup corn starch
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 3 eggs
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp whiskey
- dash of salt
- 1/4 cup room temp butter
- 2 tbsp chilled butter
- 2 tsp canola oil
- 2 large strawberries, minced
- 1 tbsp honey
- powder sugar for topping (optional)
DIRECTIONS:
In small mixing bowl combine the butter, strawberries and honey. Whisk together until well blended. Refrigerate.
PRO TIP: Lay out the bread slices. Sprinkle on both sides with the corn starch. This is will help to set the bread and keep it from getting too mushy.
In a mixing bowl combine the buttermilk, eggs, sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, salt, vanilla extract, and whiskey. Whisk until well blended.
In a shallow dredging dish or baking dish pour in the buttermilk batter.
Now heat a large cast iron pan or whatever you choose on med-high heat. Add remaining butter and oil.
Take 2 pieces of bread and soak in the buttermilk batter making sure to coat all corners. Turn and repeat on other side.
Place in the heated pan and add more pieces if you have room. If not just work in patches.
Cook for about 4-6 minutes per side or until a nice golden brown crust.
Keep warm on a plate covered with foil or in the oven on low heat.
When you are ready to plate, put the pieces of toast on a plate, add a dollop of the whipped butter and dredge in syrup. Top with powdered sugar is you desire.
ENJOY!!!
