Italian Sandwiches

The Ultimate Italian Hoagie

Ah sandwiches, kind of like pizza even if it’s not the best it’s still pretty good. Well I promise this will be a dam delicious one!

Now what makes a great Italian hoagie are a few key ingredients. A good dry Italian salami. I love a peppered salami  cut thin. You can buy at the deli counter in most grocery stores, from a local butcher shop, or the packaged kind in the lunch meat aisle. It’s all up to you!

Next is pepperoni, and black forest ham or honey ham.  Yes all the meats! We will also need a good provolone cheese, pepperonis, and pickled red onions.

Here is my recipe for a quick pickled onion that pairs so nicely with this hoagie.  Quick Pickled Red Onions

What else makes it great? Of course the bread! Now my advice is to go to the bakery section of a local grocery store and buy the fresh made hoagie rolls. If they do not have any you can sub Italian bread and cut into portions. It is my opinion but I feel ice berg lettuce cut into shreds is absolutely necessary in a great hoagie. To wet the bread I like to make a garlic aoli and finish it off with a good drizzle of olive oil and red wine vinegar.

Now doesn’t that look fabulous?
