Perfect Rib Eye Steak

A Guide to Juicy and Flavorful Steak.

The real key here is the prep. With some easy steps you will be able to make a steak house meal in your own home!

Tips for the Perfect Rib Eye Steak
  • Choose quality meat: Opt for rib eye steaks with good marbling, as the fat content contributes to the flavor and tenderness of the meat.
  • Season generously: Don’t be afraid to use a generous amount of salt and pepper to enhance the natural flavors of the steak. Or any steak seasoning you like.
  • Use a hot pan: A hot cast-iron skillet is ideal for achieving a perfect sear and caramelization on the steaks.
  • Don’t overcrowd: Cook the steaks in batches if necessary to ensure even cooking and a beautiful crust.
  • Rest the meat: Allowing the steaks to rest before slicing helps retain the juices and improves the overall texture.

Okay, let’s get started!

Ingredients

  • 2 rib eye steaks (about 1.5 inches thick)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper or steak seasoning.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
Compound Butter
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 tsp garlic, minced
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp herb seasoning such as Italian or fresh herbs like rosemary and thyme, and parsley.
  • 1/2 tsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp basil, chopped

Instructions

Step 1: Preparing the Steaks

Remove the rib eye steaks from the refrigerator and let them come to room temperature for about 30 minutes. Pat them dry with paper towels. Generously season both sides with salt and freshly ground black pepper.

While the steaks rest, mix all the compound butter ingredients in a small bowl and set store in the refrigerator.

Step 2: Preheating the Pan

Preheat the oven to 425°F.

Heat a large cast-iron skillet over high heat until it starts to smoke slightly. Add the olive oil and swirl to coat the bottom of the pan evenly.

Step 3: Searing the Steaks

Carefully place the steaks in the hot skillet. Do not overcrowd the pan; cook them in batches if necessary. Sear the steaks for 4 minutes.

Use tongs to flip the steaks.

Then move them to the oven.

  •  Rare (very red-pink): 125°F-130°F; Estimated Cook Time: 4 minutes in the oven.
  • Medium Rare (pink): 130°F-135°F; Estimated Cook Time: 5 minutes in the oven.
  • Medium (light pink): 135°F-140°F; Estimated Cook Time: 6 minutes in the oven.
For a well-done steak, the internal temperature should reach 160 degrees. Estimated Cook Time 8-10 minutes in the oven.

Step 4: Resting the Steaks

Remove the steaks from the skillet and place them on a cutting board. Tent them loosely with aluminum foil and let them rest for about 5 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, ensuring a tender and juicy steak.

Step 6: Serving

Slather the steaks with compound butter and then slice against the grain and serve immediately. Pair them with your favorite sides, such as roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or a fresh salad.
