Mac N Cheese Waffle

Cheese waffle

Cheesy, crunchy, saucy, and oh so delicious, plus it’s so easy to throw together.

Now if you are on a diet this is not the dish for you, however when cheat day rolls in, pull out that waffle maker and treat yo self! Now this can be made with leftover homemade mac or store bought. Up to you. I love to make this when my son has sleepovers. It is a big hit with the kids. 

Let’s just jump right in!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 5 cups of cooked macaroni and cheese
  • 1 cup of sharp cheddar, shredded.
  • 2 cups medium cheddar, shredded.
  • 1 1/2 tbsp butter
  • 1 1/2 tbsp flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 5-8 bacon cooked and chopped.

DIRECTIONS:

  • Plug in the waffle maker and let it warm to med/high setting.
  • Next in a small saucepan on med heat, melt the butter. Add the flour and whisk vigorously for 2 minutes. Add the cup of milk and continue to whisk until it is all smooth.
  • Mix all of the medium cheddar cheese into the pan. Add the salt and chili powder.
  • Whisk until smooth and creamy.
  • Set the temperature to low while the waffles are being made. Keep an eye on the sauce and mix every once in a while, so it does not burn.
  • Open the waffle maker and scoop about 2 cups or so of cold macaroni and cheese onto the waffle maker.

Macaroni and cheese

  • Add enough to cover the waffle maker.
  • Then top with a heaping amount of sharp cheddar cheese.
  • Close the lid and cook for about 4 minutes until the top begins to crust and become and lovely light brown color.
