Chicken Sausage Cheesy Orzo Pasta

Store bought chicken sausage is tossed with cheesy orzo pasta and broccoli.

It is a one pan meal which makes it convenient and DELICOUS! I like to use Aidells roasted garlic & gruyere cheese chicken sausage.

They make many different flavors; this is just the one I think goes well with the dish. Some grilled chicken would also be tasty or for the vegetarian option add in some extra broccoli, zucchini, or bell peppers.

Okay, let’s get right to it.

Ingredients:
  • 2 chicken sausages, sliced into bite size pieces
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1/2-1 cup chopped broccoli
  • 1/2 pound orzo
  • 2 1/2 cups vegetarian or chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup gouda cheese, shredded cheese
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, grated (plus more for garnish)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
Directions:
  1. In a pan over medium heat add 1tbsp of butter. Then toss in the chicken.
  2. Saute for 2 minutes then add 1/2 cup of water, cover with a lid and cook for 8-10 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  3. Now to the pan goes broccoli and orzo.
  4. Pour in the broth and give it a good stir. Cover with a lid and cook down for 5 minutes.
  5. Remove the lid and stir. Cook for 2 minutes more or until almost all the liquid is gone.
  6. Add the heavy cream, salt, pepper, paprika, parmesan, and gouda.
  7. Mix well.
  8. Toss the chicken back in the pot and combine.
  9. Cook until almost all the liquid is gone and its nice and creamy.
  10. Serve with extra parmesan cheese.
  11. ENJOY!
