Candy Cane Crinkle Cookies

Soft gooey chocolate cookie rolled in crushed candy canes.

A good roll in sugar, a quick bake and boom, Delicious perfect Holiday cookies that are sure to become a family tradition. These are great ones for the kids to help with too. It’s fun to roll the dough balls in the sugar and makes for a fun evening of memories.

Okay let’s get started!

Ingredients
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/3 cup cocoa flour
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar, divided
  • 2 eggs
  • ¼ cup crushed finely candy canes (I use the small ones)
  • ½ tsp peppermint extract
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  3. In a bowl combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Stir and set aside.
  4. In a separate mixing bowl combine the butter, brown sugar, and 1/2 cup of granulated sugar. With a hand mixer or kitchen aid, mix until light and fluffy. Scrape the bowl down and add the eggs.
  5. Beat well then add the exract. Mix well.
  6. Combine the flour mix with the wet mix and beat together until well combined.
  7. In a shallow bowl add 1/2 cup of granulated sugar and the candy canes. Mix.
  8. In a separate shallow bowl add the powdered sugar. Using a tablespoon, scoop out the dough and roll it into a ball.
  9. Next roll the ball in the candy cane sugar mix.
  10. Then the powdered sugar.
  11. Continue with all the cookie dough, placing the balls about a inch apart on the baking sheet.
  12. Bake for 10 minutes or until the cookies have cracked. We want them to be a little gooey inside still.
